INTRO:
There are almost 750 references to music in the Bible.
So, surely there is something we can learn about music from the Bible.
First let me say that music is NOT amoral. There is good music and
bad music, and I do not mean the quality of the performer. I mean
there is music that God says is morally good and music that is morally
bad. We will see this tonight in the Bible.
I'm so glad that I can find my answers in the Bible, and that I'm a
Bible believer and want to find the answers there.
Music is worship.
Ezekiel 28:13 tells us that Lucifer was created to be the song leader in heaven. God built into him the greatest knowledge in the universe concerning music. When Satan attacks the churches of Jesus Christ today, he uses his best and sharpest weapon, the one that he is most expert in, music. There are very few subjects that cause more anger in churches today than that of music.
When it comes to music in our lives, what are we really after?
Something that feels good, something that sounds good? Something
that gives God praise?
What should be our reason for music? Worship.
Of the nearly 750 times music is mentioned it is related to some form
of worship.
Worship of God. Worship of Creation. Worship of Man.
Worship of pagan gods.
Music is Worship.
So, can we find anything out from the Bible that would steer us into the right direction for the type of music we ought to have? I say, "Yes."
Our text along with some verses from the New Testament will help us to establish what is the right form of music for us in our worship.
The World has proven for us that music has strength and influence.
The Bible has proven it as well, for the Bible says,
1 Corinthians 14:7 And even things without life giving sound, whether
pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it
be known what is piped or harped?
1 Corinthians 14:8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who
shall prepare himself to the battle?
