Prophesy made in Genesis 22:8 - "God will provide HIMSELF a lamb for a burnt offering"

A great prophecy concerning the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ has been destroyed in many modern versions. Abraham had been told by God: "Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of."
This entire historical event foreshadowed the Father offering up His Son as the lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world. "The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." John 1:29
Notice Genesis 22:14 - "And Abraham called the name of that place Jehova-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen." In Genesis 22:2 God told Abraham to take Isaac his son and go "into the land of Moriah".
Later on in the history of Israel, king Solomon began to build the house of the Lord. In 2 Chronicles 3:1 we are told: "Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount Moriah".
Mount Moriah was in Jerusalem and this is where many centuries later God the Son became a curse for us (Galatians 3:13). God made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin (2 Corinthians 5:21) and the prophesy of Isaiah was fulfilled who said: "Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when THOU SHALT MAKE HIS SOUL AN OFFERING FOR SIN..." (Isaiah 53:10)
Ephesians 5:2 tells us "Christ also hath loved us, and hath GIVEN HIMSELF for us AN OFFERING AND A SACRIFICE TO GOD God for a sweetsmelling savour."
Compare Genesis 8:20-21 where this phrase about "a sweet smelling savour" is first used in the Holy Bible - "And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, of of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the LORD smelled a sweet savour"
Even the type of the resurrection after three days is found here. Abraham decided in his heart that he would obey God and kill his own son. It was as good as done in Abraham's mind the night before. Then he arose early in the morning of the next day, took his son, clave the wood for the burnt offering and went unto the place of which God had told him.
Then we are told in verse 4 "Then ON THE THIRD DAY Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off. It was on this third day that the angel of the LORD again called unto Abraham and said "Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me."
So even the type of the resurrection after three days is fulfilled in this passage in Genesis 22. Hebrews 11:19 tells us of Abraham's "accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure."
The verse that has been changed in the NKJV, NASB, ESV, NET and NIV and alters the full significance of the spiritual type being portrayed, is Genesis 22:8. In the King James Bible we read in verses 7 and 8: "And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My son, God WILL PROVIDE HIMSELF A LAMB for a burnt offering." God will provide HIMSELF a lamb.
This is the prophetic type as we are told in verse 14 "And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen."
What took place in type here with Abraham and his son would be seen at a future time. That time was when the Lord Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, died on Calvary for the sins of His people.
As Jesus himself said: "Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it and was glad." John 8:56.
The popular modern versions either obscure or completely remove this prophetic truth.
NKJV says: "God will provide FOR Himself the lamb"
ESV- "God will provide FOR himself the lamb"
Holman Standard - "God Himself will provide the lamb"
NASB - "God will provide FOR Himself the lamb"
NIV - "God himself will provide the lamb"
Green's 'literal' -"God will see to the lamb FOR Himself"
It should be obvious to all but the dullest of minds that the Lord God did NOT need a sacrifice FOR Himself. He is the sinless, thrice Holy God.
The reading of "God will provide HIMSELF a lamb" is the reading of the 1917 JPS (Jewish Publication Society) and 1936 Hebrew Publishing Company) translations- "God will provide Himself the lamb for a burnt-offering, my son."
They are not even Christians and yet they have it just as it is in the KJB. Even the so called Greek Septuagint reads this way. It says: "ὁ θεὸς ὄψεται ἑαυτῷ πρόβατον εἰς ὁλοκάρπωσιν" and is translated into English on the side as "God will provide himself a sheep for a whole-burnt-offering, my son."
It is also the reading of the Revised Version of 1885 -”And Abraham said, GOD WILL PROVIDE HIMSELF THE LAMB for a burnt offering, my son”, the ASV of 1901 (the predecessor to the NASB), The Longman Version 1841, the Lesser Bible 1853 - "God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt–offering", the Catholic Douay-Rheims of 1610 and the Douay version of 1950 - "God will provide himself a victim for an holocaust, my son", Webster's 1833 translation, the Lesser Old Testament 1853, The Wellbeloved Scriptures 1862, The Revised English Bible 1877, The Ancient Hebrew Bible 1907, The Word of Yah Bible 1993, The World English Bible 2000, A Conservative Version 2005 - "God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering", the KJV 21st century 1994, the Third Millennium Bible 1998, the Hebrew Names Version 2014 - "God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering.", the New Heart English Bible 2010, and the English Jubilee Bible 2010.

Also agreeing with the meaning found in the King James Bible is the 2011 Orthodox Jewish Bible, which reads: “And Avraham said, My son, G-d will provide Himself a seh (lamb) for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.”
The Complete Jewish Bible of 1998 also reads the same - “God will provide HIMSELF the lamb for a burnt offering, my son”.
The Sacred Scriptures Family of Yah 2001 - “Elohim will provide himself the lamb for a burnt-offering, my son.”
The Hebraic Transliteration Scripture 2010 - “My son, Elohim will provide (yireh) Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.”
This is also the reading found in Lamsa’s translation of the Syriac Peshitta. It reads - “And Abraham said, God WILL PROVIDE HIMSELF THE LAMB for a burnt offering, my son.”
The KJB reading of God will provide HIMSELF a lamb teaches that the lamb who in the future would be sacrificed was God himself, not somebody else. Jesus Christ is God, the second person of the trinity, the creator, God manifest in the flesh. The true Bible itself is its own best commentary.
In Acts 20:28 we read of Paul exhorting the elders to “feed the church of God, which HE hath purchased WITH HIS OWN BLOOD.”
1 Timothy 2:6 says: "Christ Jesus, Who GAVE HIMSELF A RANSOM FOR SIN, to be testified in due time."
Galatians 1:4 - "our Lord Jesus Christ, Who GAVE HIMSELF FOR OUR SINS, that he might deliver us from this present evil world".
Galatians 2:20 - "I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and GAVE HIMSELF for me.
Ephesians 5:25 - "Christ also loved the church and GAVE HIMSELF FOR IT."
1 Timothy 2:5-6 "one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who GAVE HIMSELF A RANSOM for all"
Titus 2:13-14 "the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who GAVE HIMSELF for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity"

However the NKJV, ESV, Dan Wallace and company’s NET version and the NASB say: "God will provide FOR Himself a lamb" while the NIV has "God himself will provide the lamb."
Do you see the change here? No longer can you use these modern versions to prove that Christ is God by referring to Genesis 22:8. The prophesy was not fulfilled here in Genesis 22. Abraham lift up his eyes and saw behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns, and he offered up the ram in the stead of his son. But a ram is not a lamb. The true lamb, who is also God Himself, is the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Catholic Connection
Among the conflicting Catholic versions we see the same thing occurring. The earlier Catholic Douay Rheims of 1610 reads like the KJB, as well as the 1950 Douay Version, saying: “And Abraham said: God will provide HIMSELF a victim for an holocaust, my son.”
But the newer Catholic versions like the New Jerusalem Bible 1985 and the St. Joseph New American Bible of 1970 both read - “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering.”
This also is the way the Holman Standard Version of 2003 reads. Just by switching a word from one place to another the whole meaning is changed, and you can no longer prove that the true Lamb of God is the Lord Jesus Christ, who is God HIMSELF!
Peter Pett’s Commentary on the Bible Genesis 22:8 - “For we know that God did provide Himself as a Lamb for the offering, the Lamb of God Who would take away the sin of the world. And it makes us look at what this was costing Abraham, and realize how much it must have cost God. God did not ask Abraham to do something that He would not do Himself.”
The King James Bible exalts the Lord Jesus Christ to His rightful place as “GOD manifest in the flesh” - (See 1 Timothy 3:16 and compare the modern critical text versions.) And “there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” - (See 1 John 5:7 and compare the modern critical text versions).

Hi Nilo. I know some people will dispute that Genesis 22:8 is necessarily saying that God Himself is the Lamb and you really cannot prove it either way. But this understanding that God Himself is the Lamb can only be seen in the KJB and other versions that translated it this way. The versions that say "God will provide FOR Himself a lamb" totally exclude this possibility. I believe the KJB has it right and it is actually a prophesy that God Himself IS the Lamb - Acts 20:28 "the church of God which He purchased with HIS OWN BLOOD."
A Short Grammar Lesson - Direct Objects, Indirect Objects, and Appositions.
Objective in Apposition :
A substantive in apposition with an objective is itself in the objective case.
1. Yesterday I saw Williams the express man. [Apposition with the direct object of saw.]
2. Tom gave his friend John a book. [Apposition with the indirect object friend.]
3. He lives with Andrews the blacksmith. [Apposition with the object of the preposition with.]
This rule follows from the general principle that an appositive is in the same case as the substantive to which it is attached.
1 Timothy 2:6 says: "Christ Jesus, Who GAVE HIMSELF A RANSOM FOR SIN, to be testified in due time." In this verses both "himself" and "a ransom" are the direct objects in apposition to each other.
Direct objects answer Who or What? And that is what we have here and in 1 Timothy 2:6. Christ gave - Gave who or what? Gave HIMSELF. Here the words "a ransom" are in apposition to himself.

Christ gave HIMSELF A RANSOM. Subject, verb, Direct object "himself" Direct Object in apposition "a ransom".
THEN we have the Indirect object - For whom or to whom = for all.
The word "himself" IS the direct object, and "a ransom" is in apposition to himself.
As I see it and many others, this is the same thing that is happening in Genesis 22:8. God will provide HIMSELF A LAMB for a burnt offering.
Himself IS the Direct Object in this sentence. "a lamb" is in apposition to the word "himself".
Tom shaved HIMSELF this morning. Himself IS the Direct Object. He did not shave FOR himself. Whom did he shave? Himself. That is the direct object.
There are many examples in the Bible where the word "himself" IS the direct object of a sentence.
Notice these first examples in particular-
John 5:18 - but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
"himself" IS the direct object, and "equal with God" is in apposition to "himself".
AND John 19:7 - The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
"himself" is the D.O. the Son of God is in apposition, and is the same as "himself".
Ephesians 5:2 - And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
Notice - given HIMSELF (D.O.) "for us" (I.O.) "an offering and a sacrifice" in apposition to the word "himself"
Titus 2:14 - Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Notice "himself" = D.O. "for us" = I. O.
John 19:12 - whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar. = same thing.
