"Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God (Hebrews 6:1)
As we are now in the month of January
- - the first month of a new year, our minds go in many different directions. There are many unanswered questions and many unfinished tasks. We all have our problems - - maybe health problems, financial problems, or marital problems. But, as we begin this new year, let us look away from our problems, count our blessings, and then follow our great Captain, the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us march on to victory in Jesus.1.PRAISING GOD FOR PAST BLESSINGS
Time nor space will allow us to number our blessings. Even eternity will be too short to praise God for all our benefits in Jesus. Thank God for salvation that has delivered us from sin and from its awful consequences, and has preserved us from all harm and danger in the future. Our blessings are both spiritual and temporal. We must be careful not to take for granted the blessings of our health, home, family, friends, church, or Christian comrades.
2.LAYING ASIDE EXCESS WEIGHT
Hebrews 12:1 says, "Let. us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us." As we go on with the Lord, on our Journey to the eternal city of God, we need to get rid of all excess weight. There will be mountains to climb, rivers to cross, and battles to fight. Therefore, we need to carry only that which is necessary for the Journey. "Put off all these: anger, wrath, malice
. . ." (Col 3:8). We must lighten the load of our heart and mind and center our affections on things above (see Col. 3:2).3. LOOKING FOR FUTURE JOYS
The Christian way is a way of joy. There is joy even in times of trouble. The joy of the Lord is our strength (see Neh. 8:10). This joy is brought about by the presence of the Lord in our hearts, but there are future joys that far surpass anything here. One day we will enter into the joys of heaven, joys that are so great that our minds cannot take them in now. Keep on keeping on. It will be worth every mile of the trip.
